This position in particular is a management role with the main purpose of increasing the frontend team’s output as much as possible. The Frontend Team at Mercari is responsible for developing a new high-performance web version of Mercari in anticipation of the move to microservices, developing important high-traffic screens such as the transaction screen, and developing internal tools that connect our customer service team with users. In tackling these challenges the team has seen big changes, and will continue to grow and evolve in the future. As an Engineering Manager, you must work with the frontend team to propose and implement measures to support team members, nurture their professional growth, and expand the engineering organization as a whole. In doing so you will ensure that the frontend team functions effectively across Mercari as a whole and contributes towards maximizing the output of the company. Details Creating and promoting measures to help drive the transition to microservices: Evaluating and leading bold organizational changes that will allow development/operation to change and grow after migrating the system to microservices Evaluating and promoting projects for hiring, onboarding, and assigning that will help engineers regularly give their best performance within a rapidly growing team Carefully handling the various problems that could potentially arise during our transition to microservices Proposing and implementing strategies to solve problems and improve our engineering organization, such as: Proposing and developing new tech projects (projects by the engineering teams) with team members Planning and running internal events (EM Philosophy Talk, Lunch & Learn, etc.) with the aim of sharing knowledge and increasing understanding of the organization Participating in hiring and PR activities to grow our engineering organization Maximizing engineering output and encouraging career growth through tasks such as: Handling goal setting and evaluations for engineer growth each quarter, in addition to holding 1-on-1 meetings for regular communication and feedback Assigning projects and roles to engineers while considering their future career growth. ▼Minimum Requirements ・Experience developing with modern frontend technology ・Management experience ・Experience with interdepartmental coordination ・Experience mentoring engineers ・Experience hiring engineers (screening applications, interviewing, direct recruiting, hosting events, etc.) ▼Preferred ・Ability to use English for business duties ・Experience designing architecture for an entire system ・Experience making technical decisions for a team as a tech lead ・Experience operating systems that use microservice architecture ▼Our Ideal Candidate ・Capable of understanding project priorities and assigning engineers appropriately ・Possesses extensive technological expertise and desire to learn new technologies ・Capable of understanding individual engineer’s motivations and encouraging their personal growth along with the business’s growth ・Possesses strong communication abilities for solving organizational problems ・Capable of taking responsibility for engineer hiring and training, and possesses a long-term vision for engineer growth ▼BENEFITS ・Health insurance ・Incentive program ・Employee stock ownership plan ・Full transportation coverage ・Custom PC ・Dual screen if needed ・Company smartphone ・Visa support ・New Employee Benefits at Mercari「mercibox」
